Rosemount Swimmers Capture True Team Section Title

Wenman, Griffith, relay teams lead sixth-ranked Irish swim past tenth-ranked Woodbury to win Section 3AA True Team girls swimming and diving title

It was expected to be a fight between sixth-ranked Rosemount and No. 10 Woodbury and it was just that at the 2011 Section 3AA True Team Girls Swimming and Diving Invitational Saturday.

Host Rosemount won the meet with 1,034 points at the Rosemount Middle School pool, edging Woodbury which finished second with 985.5. East Ridge was third in the team race, Cretin-Derham Hall fourth, Henry Sibley fifth (493.5) and Park of Cottage Grove sixth (321.5).

Rosemount advances to the Class AA True Team State Meet Wednesday, Oct. 19 at the University of Minnesota, starting at 7 p.m.

In the True Team meets, every team member's performance counts toward the team's score.

First place is worth as many points as the number of possible entries in the event. For example: If there are eight teams entered in the meet there is a possible 32 entries per event. Thus making first place worth 32 points, second place worth 31 points etc. etc. Relay points are double the value of individual events.

Each school could enter up to four individuals and four relay teams per event.

Rosemount won the girls 200-yard medley relay with the team of Beth Wenman, Olivia Johnston, Katrina Orthmann and Teija Normandeau in 1:57.50.

Rosemount’s Megan Wenman (1:58.86) and Claire Tolan (2:01.98) went 1-2 in the 200-yard freestyle.

Rosemount seniors Elyse Griffith (1:03.16) and Beth Wenman (1:04.96) were first and second in the 100-yard backstroke.

Finishing second for the Irish were Olivia Johnston in the 200-yard IM (2:17.15), Madeline Ryan in the 50-yard freestyle (26.12), Orthmann in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.48), Megan Wenman in the 100-yard freestyle (54.49) and Tolan in the 500-yard freestyle (5:32.69).

The Rosemount 200-yard freestyle relay team of Normandeau, Ryan, Tolan and Megan Wenman was second in 1:43.94. Rosemount’s Beth Wenman, Tolan, Megan Wenman and Johnston were second in 3:47.26.
